I was thinking today about what I would like to write about. In the past, I’ve always searched for a schtick of sorts upon which to hang my hat. I am, by nature, a niche girl. I think that was what was so appealing about my time with The AntiCraft. I got to really delve into the nichiest of niches, and play. It was a lot of fun, but eventually it came time for me to move on.
Since then, I’ve sort of struggled to find my own niche. After a time, it sort of ceased to be skulls and zombies. I tried to make this blog about mental health (when I still had my own domain name), I’ve tried for serialized fiction, craft blogging, weight-management blogging, and any other number of grooves I could try to hang my hat on.
The problem? I don’t wear just one hat. I’m not really sure anyone does. We are a many-hatted society. Multitaskers. Hardly anyone does the same job for their entire life anymore, and interests come and go. Mine have certainly been known to fluctuate. Hell, I named this site “Genre Impaired.” That should certainly say something for how focused I can be. (BTW, thanks Zab for helping me with the name oh so many years ago)
To that end, I think I’m going to stop attempting to be so dern regimented in what I can do with my personal space. This year, it will be more of a focused effort to just blog. As I progress with this, I might once again find a niche to grab onto, or I might not.
For now, a bit about me:
I am a 28 (soon to be 29) year old, mother of one, wife of one, friend of fewer people than I used to think but more than I used to think I deserved. I have co-written a published book, AntiCraft: Knitting, Beading, and Stitching for the Slightly Sinister, and I hope to one day be published in either fiction or a different genre of creative nonfiction. I attend college right now to eventually get a masters (about six years down the road at my current rate) in Counseling Psychology.
As you might have guessed from the aforementioned book title, I am an avid crafter, though I do take breaks from it to focus on schoolwork and writing. Right now I’m in more of a writing mode, so I am reworking a novel I wrote back in 2007 during NaNoWriMo.
I also have a cool dog.
That is pretty much me. Normal Ne, livin’ life, taking everything as it comes. Interesting content may or may not follow.
